About Me

My photo
Alaska, United States
I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. What An Experience (posted Dec 5, 2009)

Well, we said we were going to sail over to Pulau Dayang Bunting, the island where the lake of the Pregnant Maiden is located.  We said that we were going 3 days ago, but hey, we are not on a schedule.  We will finally go but when, who cares.
And because we didn’t go when we said we would, we got to experience some unusual stuff.
We were at the Yacht Club for lunch.  Note that we are actually anchored in the bay from the Yacht Club and not berthed in the marina.  On our way back to the boat, we came across some dolphins playing about 10 m from the dinghy.  It was really nice to be so close to these mammals.
Langkawi is hosting a maritime and aerospace show this week.  As a fringe of the show, they have put on a cultural expo right at the complex where the jetty we use to go ashore.  So we had a walk around and tasted different laksas from different parts of Malaysia.  Laksa is a dish of noodles with curry soup and different laksas are made up of different ingredients.
We had just gone to sleep when we were woken up with what sounded like explosions.  We jumped out of our bed, shot up the hatch to find a glorious fireworks display right on the shore next to the jetty.  It lasted quite a while and the display was so beautiful.  But what is most amazing is that we were right there, sitting at anchor in the water, with a glorious full moon and the colorful display of fireworks.  It was an experience that would stay in our memories for a while.
So who cares if we didn’t sail to the island when we said we would?  Ho hum, another day in paradise.
