About Me

I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Cruising Mode (posted Nov 25, 2009)

The days of racing are over.  Shift over to cruising mode.  Time to sail from one exotic port to another, doing boat repairs.

Right now we are sitting in a nice bay in Langkawi, doing little jobs on the boat.  We still need to sort out what is wrong with our steering.  We know for sure that the lightning strike has affected the rudder angle indicator transducer.  We will get a replacement when we are in the US in January.  Another issue might be the non-return valve or the check value.  When we turn the wheel, the rudder goes back to center.

We have another expensive project, which is to replace the big battery bank.  The batteries are a little old and we did not replace them before we left Singapore and now we are feeling the loss in power.  We have to run the generator to charge the batteries twice a day.
We are getting a chart of Langkawi on Thursday, so we can start sailing around the islands.

The charts we have are a little old – like 20 years old!

Everything is closed this Friday due to a religious holiday in Muslim Langkawi.

We are just going with the flow.  Life could be a lot worse.
