About Me

My photo
Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico
I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Grand Haven (posted Feb 11, 2010)

We left Chicago on Sunday, Jan 31 for Grand Haven.  Our friend, Suzie joined us for a visit.  Suzie is Pauline’s friend of 25 years from Singapore but she has been working and living in San Francisco for the last 10 years.  The last time Suzie visited Mom and Dad was in 2000 so it has been a long time.  Suzie made a snow angel.  We even put her to work making Polish perogies.  Mark joked that even perogies are made by the Chinese.

What did we do in Grand Haven?  We met up with family and ate.  We met up with friends and ate.  We met up with family again and ate again.  We met up with friends again and ate again.  So the weight we lost while cruising piled back on.  But well, we had fun so no worries.  We can lose them when we go cruising again.
We had visits from Tom (Mark’s brother-in-law) and family minus Chris (she had to work) and the two older kids who were at school, Laura (Mark’s sister) and family minus Tayler who is in Japan for a year, and Matt (Mark’s brother).  It was great seeing everyone again.
We met up with Jeff, Ako and Lori (Poel) a couple of times and we actually caught the Super Bowl game at Jeff and Ako’s house.  The Poels have been friends with Mark since his high school years and so we usually meet up whenever we are back in Grand Haven.
We also met up with Ralph Damato, Mark’s schoolmate and ex-colleague, who drove 2 hours to Grand Haven to have lunch with us.  Thanks so much.  It was really great meeting him after almost 20 years.
Time flies when you are having fun and it is time again to say goodbye to Mom and Dad.
We will be back in Singapore for Chinese New Year and will update again soon.
