We stayed at Ao Chalong after Christmas, to nurse our heads and left on the 28th for Nai Harn Bay. This bay is very popular with cruisers and it is where the Royal Phuket Yacht Club (a resort and not a real yacht club) is situated. It was a really lovely anchorage and we had dinners at a nice restaurant on the beach with cruisers we met. We left Nai Harn Bay on New Year’s Eve and motored over to Patong Bay. Lots of boats anchor in Patong Bay for New Year’s Eve because of the fireworks display. We had dinner and drinks on a very nice boat we know from Singapore and we watched the fantastic fireworks, the best Pauline had ever seen.
From around 8pm, there were “mini” firework displays and many lanterns were set aloft. There were hundreds of lanterns in the sky and together with the full moon, was a sight to behold. At almost 11.30 they really kicked into gear and went on well past midnight, the firework displays were going on onshore all around the bay. There is no way to describe the scene except to be there to see. Sorry, the pictures did not come out at all because we only had an idiot-proof camera. Even if they did, it does not even come close to the real thing. You really have to be there to get the feeling. At one stage, Pauline was jumping up and down like a little kid, clapping her hands like a circus seal. Wow.
We would like to wish all our family and friends a very happy new year and may the year 2010 be a great year for all of you.
