About Me

My photo
Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico
I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Update (posted Jan 18, 2010)

It has been awhile since our last blog regarding the lightning strike.  Our friends from the other boat at Ko Phra Thong told us that the lightning came down and hit the water between our boats.  There were 4 boats at anchor then and it picked us.  Oh well.   We are glad we didn’t see the lightning bolt come down.
2 days after that (a Friday) we left and headed south back to Ao Chalong, Phuket.  We made a stop at Ban Thap Lamu and stayed 2 nights in order to catch up with friends from Sunflower.  We got back to Ao Chalong on Sunday to try and get quotes for repairs.  On Monday night, we found out that a battery charger was in stock in Singapore and Pauline flew back Tuesday morning to pick up essentials.  She picked up the battery charger and the digital display (just in case the one on the boat was fried too), the depth transducers and a new GPS.  By Thursday she was back in Phuket and we got the battery charger working.  We found out that the display was dead so just as well we got the spare.  However the downside is that we still do not have any depth indication because the new depth transducer does not work.  We believe that the transducer interface box is blown and we did not pick up a spare.
On the 15th (a Friday), we checked out of Thailand officially and made last minute provision and left Phuket on Saturday.  We anchored in a beautiful bay in Ko Lanta Hai and left for Ko Tarutao early this morning.  We are now sitting at anchor in Ko Tarutao and will be back in Bass Harbor by tomorrow.  We have a booking in the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club from Jan 20 where Sari Timur will remain while we fly to Singapore and the US.
We will update more in due course.
