About Me

My photo
Alaska, United States
I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Telaga Harbor Marina (posted Dec 25, 2009)

We had made a stance to stay out of marinas as much as possible on this trip in order to check the systems out on the boat the way they are supposed to be.  However, we needed water and fuel and the fuel barge in Langkawi has a reputation for misaligned gauges on their meters.  The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club’s fuel system was broke so we decided we would call in to Telaga Harbour Marina on our way out.  We had been there by car a couple of times but not by boat so were a little apprehensive.  Sari Timur does not like marinas too much!  She usually bucks and shakes a little, all at the most inopportune moments, like when everyone is watching and that really expensive boat is right next to us!  Must admit though she handled this marina like a champ.  The fuel dock was full as we came in so we had to tie up at the landing dock, wait for it to clear then swing out, do a “U turn” followed by almost an immediate three point turn to get back to the fuel dock.  It must have been the promise of a nice bath and a full charge in her batteries that made her perform so well as this all went without a hitch, as was the in and out of the berth, that went smoothly too.  We enjoyed Telaga so much and the way Sari Timur performed that we opted for two nights in the marina and not only gave her a good wash down but a coat of deck treatment as well.
