About Me

My photo
Alaska, United States
I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Update for the Holidays

On December 13, Mark flew out to Dutch Harbor to join the Reece Eagle as First Mate.  Pauline stayed behind to watch the boat.

On the 16th we had a small weather window and we headed towards Seattle.   Once we were out of the confines of the harbor, we realised the weather was still not very nice.  Several times we had to alter course and sometimes head backwards.  Pauline was acting as weather watcher on the other end of the satphone and finally on the 23rd of December, we snuck into Resurrection  Bay and tied up the barge and tug.  The owners, realising the weather was not going to let up soon, gave the crew off for Christmas.  Mark didn't tell Pauline, and a half hour before midnight Christmas Eve, he came aboard and wished Pauline a Merry Christmas with a brand new Instant Pot under his arm.  We were so wound up after our greetings etc we decided to watch Jimmy Stewart in the movie It's a Wonderful Life before heading to bed.  On Friday Pauline had an interview with a local bank.  She did well during the interview and we await the New Year and the bank's budget to see if she gets hired or not.

The weather is still pretty nasty so we will still be together to ring in the New Year. but shortly after Mark will head back north again.  That part of Alaska is experiencing some of the worst cold weather in decades so he is glad we are down here in Sitka where the weather is pretty mild.

Anyway Happy Holidays to everyone.

Back in Sitka

Whoop,s we were having trouble and forgot to update the blog.  We have been back in Sitka for a couple of weeks now.  We missed several people, but those of you we did see, thanks for taking the time to get together with us.  Some of you we hadn't seen since before we left ten years ago.

By the way, we realised we had an anniversary while we were in Singapore.  It was exactly 10 years since we began full time cruising again.

Our stay in Singapore went well.  Mark had his toe cut up to try to fix the ingrown toenail he has been fighting with since he left Africa.  By reshaping the toe, the doctor hopes it will grow back properly.

We stopped in San Francisco for a few days to get more time with Suzie and Doug.  We had a great visit and if anyone is passing through Palo Alto, we discovered a great Georgian restaurant.  From the country not the state.  Never knew Georgia had such a good white wine or such great foods.
