About Me
- SY Sari Timur
- Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico
- I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Ah, Well, Sort of!
Well we kind of left yesterday. We were motoring out of the marina and following our track in. Of course we didn't know that the buoys we followed in were wrong! Apparently the buoys were lost in a typhoon and they put in some for another entrance. But only one for this entrance. The chart made it a bit confusing so we followed our old track. And you guessed it we found the rocks the missing buoy is supposed to mark. Well thank God for long keels. We just nudged up on it and couldn't get off. We soon had a rescue crew (man Japan is great!) helping us and one of the rescuers who ran aground trying to help us. He popped off fast but we had to do it the old fashioned way. Set two anchors and wait for the tide. Anyway two hours latter we were off and heading back to the marina. Boat and crew suffered no damage other that to our prides. But ended up having a great night out with the rescuers!
