About Me

My photo
Alaska, United States
I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Night Out with our Rescuers

Well, the previous post told of our grounding and rescue.  Japanese are great people, they don't fail to impress us with their willingness to jump in with their help.  Soon after we hit the rock, a Japanese sailboat came along to help but in the process ran aground himself!

Anyway this post is not about the grounding and rescue but about our great night out with a special family who have been helping us the minute we arrived into Ginowan Marina in Okinawa.

Like we said before, we were so busy with repairs that we didn't have much time to play.  We went to a pub once for beer and pizza and then this dinner, which was our 'thank you' dinner to Asanoma-San and his family.  Pauline's philosophy that things happen for a reason seems to point to the fact that because of the grounding, we had the chance to hang out with them and had a great dinner and a fun time.  They took us to a very nice restaurant serving local Okinawan food and local Okinawan alcohol called Awamori.  It is between rice wine and rice beer, which they drink with ice and water.  After dinner, we ended up in a nice little bar for a nightcap.  We had mojito with mint and rosemary fresh from their little garden.  So we ended up a little yopparatteiru, which means drunk.  A great way to end off after the day's issues!
