About Me

My photo
Alaska, United States
I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Anchorage Run

We were able to bum a ride to and from Anchorage yesterday.  So we jumped on it.  We needed some rode to add to our chain.  The anchorages are more often than not very deep here.  Our 90 meters of all chain rode just wasn't cutting it so we added another 150 foot of 3/4 nylon ( roughly 45 meters more).  We also bought quite a bit of other things including a new pair of glass frames for Mark, as his were in pretty bad shape.  Anyway today was spent adding the rode and rebuilding the false floor in the anchor locker.  We also fixed the drawer stops on the top two drawers in the galley as well as do some more cleaning.

The to do list is getting much shorter but a couple of those items are rather large like scrape and re varnish the exterior!  The scraping might get done but we doubt we will get much varnishing done before our guests arrive next month.  Chris, Tom, Megan, and Brendan are coming for a visit and we will head off to Denali for a few days with them.  We still want to hit the Sound and do some exploring before they get here.  That might help us decide whether we are going to stay in Seward for another year or head south.

  1. Ouch! 90 metres not enough. That is some good deep anchoring. We will be watching your blog with interest to help us prepare for our departure to Alaska to rejoin our route which we left in guam. Jim and Tori
