About Me

My photo
Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico
I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Busy Weekend in Ensenada

This weekend is a busy one in Ensenada.  The Newport to Ensenada yacht race finished here this weekend.  145 boats took part in the race but 17 bailed in San Diego.  No, we did not sail back up to Newport to take part.  At the same time the NORRA (the National Off Road Racing Association) is holding the NORRA Mexico 1000, which is an off road race between here and Cabo.  There are over 200 special off road racing vehicles taking part. The vehicle check in and central race start is just outside the marina.  We wandered out after we went grocery shopping, to see some of the vehicles and catch the vibe.  Unfortunately we didn’t think to take photos until we were exiting.  We imagine the bars on Gringo Gulch will be busy tonight!

The Buggies heading to the Start Line.  It is a staggered start, i.e. a time delay between each buggy.  We think this is because they start on the road and traffic needs to flow.
