About Me

My photo
Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico
I am owned by Pauline and Mark Blasky. My hull was built at the Duncan Marine Yard in Taiwan and launched in Dec of 1980. It is a William Garden design based on the Pixie Design and called by Duncan Marine a Freedom 45. They are the fourth owners and have owned me the longest. They have done extensive refitting to me including replacing my entire deck structure and rig. My masts are roughly 10% taller than original and now are made of aluminium as opposed to the original wood ones, which, though pretty, were always problematic. Rachel is gone

The winds from Rachel turned out to not be too bad (less than 50 Kts). The rain however did cause some havoc.  Being from SE Asia and W Michigan we are used to large rainfalls.  Desert communities however have issues with rainfall.  Flooding is a real problem so are flat rooftops.  The marina office buildings roof collapsed.  Apparently a drain got blocked and too much water collected on the roof.  Sunday morning we walked to church as usual but had to deviate around a whole block that was flooded.  Afterwards we decided to walk to Gringo Gulch for breakfast.  On the way we had to cross second street.  It was closed and was a river.  That is only one block from the famous Gringo Gulch.  On the Gulch there were several people clearing up messes and unblocking those drains so more roof’s weren’t lost.  Several communities are without power.  We were lucky in the marina we had glitchy power but never lost it and by morning it was steady enough to flip back on the battery charger.  All in all a non event for us.
